"What Should I Look for When Choosing a Coach?"

Here are three things to keep in mind when looking for a coach:

Experience
What kind of training or credentials does the coach have? What's their professional background? What kind of life experiences have they had? Decide what’s important to you and don’t be afraid to ask questions about it.

Philosophy
Every coach has a different style and approach. It can be useful to start with a very basic question like "How do you define coaching?" What are the roles each of you will play, and what are the expectations? What is the process they use? Do they have a point of view on what brings results and happiness?

Chemistry
Coaching is a relationship, and the best relationships have good chemistry. Trust your gut. How does it feel to be in this person's presence? Are you relaxed? Inspired? Do they get you? Do you trust them?

Many coaches offer a sample session so you can check out how they work and see if it feels like a good fit. You may wish to shop around to see who is out there. It's in everyone's best interest for both the client and the coach to feel great about working together.
